Here is a guy that can pull the trigger shoot something (or someone maybe) faster than you can blink. Not only does he shoot very very fast but he is extremely accurate too, being able to shoot a coin (quarter) in thin air… even slice the thin side of a card in two. The name of this guy is “Bob Munden“. Below are 2 videos of this Guy and a third video of shooting 5 targets in less than 5 second… just thought I’d throw that in there.

What is bigger & better than Google? Wolfram Alpha?

Wolfram Alpha displays data in ways Google’s search engine can’t!

This revolutionary invention is practically a search engine combined with a library like wikipedia, a graphing calculator and almanac with general information about the world. The search results are displayed totally different from what we’re accustomed to see (like google’s search results).

Wolfram Alpha calls itself a “Computational Knowledge Engine” because it’s able to not only show data and information about questions already answered from other people (like what google, yahoo, do) but also come up with a unique answer for the specific search or question you are asking. You can call this somewhat of Artificial Intelligence (like the 20q computer game ) but not really because it is still using a lot of data to produce the answer and it’s not specifically mentioned to be a Artificial Intelligence Software (but if it is it will be no surprise), at least not yet.

What does it do?

It uses common language and of course keywords to identify what it is you want and it displays the information precisely, or at least in a non-linear text format.
For example… if you search for:“Last Solar Eclipse San Francisco“ you will see something like this:

What else can it do?

Well compared to Google and other major search engines, this is a more practical / educational / professional / mathematical approach. As quoted from CNET… “It will tell you the family, genus, species, and caloric value of an apple, and it’ll forecast Apple’s stock price, but it won’t give you apple pie recipes. It’ll tell you the box office take of the first “Star Trek” movie, but it won’t tell you the theater where you can see the newest “Star Trek” movie.”

Also as quoted on Independent.co.uk: “Wolfram Alpha will not only give a straight answer to questions such as “how high is Mount Everest?”, but it will also produce a neat page of related information – all properly sourced – such as geographical location and nearby towns, and other mountains, complete with graphs and charts.”

How would you compare this to other search engines?

Wolfram Alpha is targeting this for research, investigation and education so people like students or professionals can obtain solid factual information quick and easy without having to click and click and find junk then advertising then click and eventually waste tons of unnecessary time. I’m not against search engines at all, hey I use them every day but I found this great graphic from someone who also found this graphic on the internet which illustrates the Uses of Google:

In conclusion?

Well, I don’t know… All I can say is let’s wait and see when it launches this Month (May 2009) and check it out. This is just insane! This is a quick video of a custom built Bicycle with a rocket attached to the rear end. I’m not sure if this is the Worlds Fastest bike but it is pretty darn fast. Gladly nothing happened to this guy riding the bike because I’m sure that if he lost control at that speed he’d probably break every bone in his body, die, pulverize and then vanish into thin air!

Try this at home! 2 Forks & a Toothpick (Video)

Defy gravity with 2 Forks, 1 Toothpick and a glass/cup. This is an interesting trick you can do without spending any money and will certainly amaze you and your friends if of course you haven’t done this before. This trick can be performed by almost anyone and almost anywhere since it basically consists of balancing 2 forks on a glass/cup with a toothpick and then lighting the end of the toothpick until it consumes halfway. Once it’s consumed you will see the 2 forks suspended in the air with the toothpick attached to the cup.

If you have done this before… cool and good for you, I’m sure you got amazed the first time. But if you haven’t… Do this right now! It only takes 2minutes!

Magento - The Great Open Source Ecommerce System

If you know what Zen Cart or osCommerce is then you must know (if you don’t, then you HAVE to know) what the Magento eCommerce Software is. In practical terms (or my terms), Magento is the latest and greatest open source ecommerce or shopping cart system for selling products online. It has so many features and capabilities like advanced product browsing, drop shipping, data feeds, etc. etc. etc. But the great thing about it, is that the GUI or front end / back end interface is absolutely user friendly.

I’ve installed many open source ecommerce systems like Zen Cart and can tell you that from a web usability standpoint this is the way to go if you’re trying to sell and manage products online. Since there is way too much to say for this astonishing system I have included 2 videos (front end & back end) and a few snapshots of this software below and a link to their demo and site. Feel free to comment if you think this software sucks or not.

How to Trigger Green Traffic Lights (Video)

Haven’t you ever been in front of a red traffic light and just waited and waited way too much for the traffic light to turn green? Well, I have and despite moving my car slightly or even turning my high and low lights repeatedly it still didn’t change. And I’m talking about 3:00am when there is no traffic in any direction and you know that if you take that turn a cop will suddenly show up out of nowhere. Here is a video of a quick solution to that little problem.

This video shows how to use some small powerful magnets to amplify the automobiles presence to the “Inductive-Loop Traffic Detector” that is strategically placed at most stopping points and consequently turns the traffic light to green!

I haven’t been able to try this yet so I can’t say if it really works or not (it sounds logical) so if you have or know anything about it feel free to share your experience.

Do you know what time it is? (Video)

A world renowned scientist named Professor Brian Cox tries to explain what time it is, what time is and most important of all, what does humanity actually know about time.

This video documentary from BBC (obtained from youtube) describes the footage as follows: “Brian journeys to the beginning of time, and goes beyond within the realms of string theory, and explores the very limit of time. He discovers that we not only travel through time at the speed of light, but the experience we feel as the passing of time could be an illusion.”

A couple years ago back in university I was amazed by the research and theories of an MIT Physics professor named Max Tegmark. I think this professor/cosmologist is either a genius or completely out of his mind. If you feel compelled to know exactly why he’s so cool… just do some research yourself or buy any of his books. Anyways, I was looking for some videos about him and didn’t find anything related… except for this documentary (sharing his expert opinion about Time/Space) and a small video clip where he explains why there is no point of having a brain.

This documentary about time is absolutely fascinating and if you have the “time” to watch it I suggest you get a cup of coffee, sit back relax and enjoy the most interesting information about the most interesting topic of all …. <–guess what goes here?
